(FAIRFAX, VA - February 18, 1999) -- Professionals and family caregivers can improve their caregiving with the area's most comprehensive dementia care education and training academy. "Dimensions of Dementia," sponsored by the Northern Virginia and Greater Washington Chapters of the Alzheimer's Association, will be held June 3-4, 1999 at Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale Campus.

The Academy will offer sessions designed for professionals as well as family caregivers and feature experts to present state-of-the-art practical and effective ways for providing high quality dementia care. The Thursday, June 3rd program will focus on sessions for professionals, and will include a special "training intensive" for persons interested in Dementia Care Specialist Certification Training. The emphasis on Friday, June 4th, will be on family caregiving issues, such as nutrition, in-home activities, and financial planning.

On both days, leading experts in the field will explore various treatments and skills needed to provide quality care, and will also address difficult end-of-life ethical issues. Participants in education and training sessions can receive continuing education units (CEUs).

Who should attend? Conference organizers suggest that anyone who deals with persons with dementia should consider attending. This includes family caregivers, social services and health care professionals, assisted living and long-term care administrators.

For a conference registration brochure or additional information, call the Alzheimer's Association at (703) 359-4440 or (301) 652-6446.
