The Chapters Government Relations program is seeking volunteers to participate in our work to advocate for the financial, legal and long-term health care security of people with Alzheimers disease and their families. First and foremost, we need your help to encourage government officials to support the Alzheimer's Association public policy goals. Please e-mail [email protected] to join our e-mail Alzheimer's Advocacy Action Alert Network. In your e-mail, please put "AAAAN" in the subject line and include you full name and complete home mailing address in the text of your message so that we can determine you legislative district. When urgent issues arise, you will get an e-mail from us indicating which government officials to contact and how to do so along with a straightforward one or two sentence explanation of the message we need those government officials to get. In every such case, we encourage you to share Alzheimer's Association Action Alerts with your family, friends, colleagues and anyone else who might be willing to add their voices in our efforts to encourage government officials to do the right thing for people coping with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder. Volunteers work pro-actively with Alzheimer family members, public interest and civic organizations, service providers, members of the academic community, government agencies and elected officials at the local, state and federal levels. Opportunities abound for energetic volunteers. Volunteers can participate in research projects, serve as liaisons to public interest and civic organizations, help monitor local government actions affecting Alzheimers families, and possibly help determine the Chapters policy goals as a member of a steering committee. Whether you can contribute one day a year or ten hours every week, there is an important role for you in the Chapters Government Relations program. To volunteer, please telephone Ian Niemi Kremer, Director of Public Policy, at the Chapter office, (866) 259-0042, extension 108, or send an e-mail message: [email protected] with the subject line "policy volunteer" and some details about how you would like to participate in the Chapter's public policy work.
