The Emergency Assistance Fund was established in 1990 to provide emergency assistance for patients with Alzheimer's Disease or a related disorder and their family members.

Possible uses of the fund include, but are not limited to the following:

  • transportation to medical appointments or diagnostic workups
  • small equipment purchase or short-term rental of medical equipment
  • funding of emergency respite service in the event of sudden caregiver illness (this includes the following: a licensed home care agency, a licensed adult day care center or a licensed residential facility)
  • purchase of medicines

Fund Guidelines
  1. Applications should be submitted by a family member or health care professional.
  2. Applicant must live within the Northern Virginia Chapter's territory.
  3. The funds will be paid directly to the service provider.
  4. Pre-existing bills will not be considered.
  5. Funds are provided on a one-time only basis with a maximum of $500.
  6. Verification of Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia is required.
  7. Applications are approved by the executive director and/or designated staff.
  8. Extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis.
