FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 10, 2001
(FAIRFAX)-Metropolitan Washington area families coping with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder will now have another place to turn to for support: a new Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area office and resource library in Wheaton, Maryland, scheduled to officially open its doors in February. The National Capital Area Chapter currently has offices located in Fairfax, Virginia and La Plata, Maryland. Chevy Chase, Maryland resident Amy Goldstein, a long-time supporter of the Alzheimer's Association, recently made a significant contribution to enable the National Capital Area Chapter to open and support this new Maryland office. Both the office and library will be dedicated in memory of Mrs. Goldstein's late husband, Colonel Julius Goldstein, throughout its existence. Colonel Goldstein had Alzheimer's disease at the time of his death. The Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area Chapter serves individuals, families and caregivers living in suburban Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC impacted by Alzheimer's disease or related disorder. The new Wheaton office will join the Fairfax and La Plata offices in providing the following programs and services:
The National Capital Area Chapter is part of a national network of Alzheimer's Association chapters. The largest private funder of Alzheimer research, the Association has committed more than $100 million toward research into the causes, treatment, prevention and cure of Alzheimer's disease. In January 2001, the former Greater Washington and Northern Virginia Chapters of the Alzheimer's Association joined together to become the Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area.
