Alzheimer's Association Offers Free Information Forum on Coping with Alzheimer's in the Later Stages

(FAIRFAX, VA) -- May 17, 1999 -- The Northern Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association will present a free informational forum titled, "Coping with Alzheimer's in the Later Stages." The forum will be held on Tuesday, June 8th from 7:00- 8:30 p.m. at Annandale United Methodist Church, 6935 Columbia Pike in Annadale, Virginia.

The session will explore the signs and symptoms of advanced and terminal stages of dementia as well as provide helpful tips for the caregiver responding to the physcial and psycho-social needs of the person during these later stages.

Forum attendees will learn:

  • Comfort and care strategies that help maintain a high quality of life
  • The difference between hospice care and long-term care and when it is appropriate to make that transition
  • Coping skills for the caregiver's stress and grief while giving care to a person in the terminal stage of dementia.

The keynote speaker is Stephanie Zeman, RN, MSN, nurse consultant in dementia are and board member of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. This particular forum is sponsored by Sunrise Assisted Living.
