Letter from the Board

Dear Chapter Members,

As the 1998-1999 fiscal year came to a close on June 30th, the beginning of the 1999-2000 fiscal year marked a milestone for the future of the Northern Virginia Chapter.

As we embark upon the new millennium, we will begin the implementation of a strategic plan that ensures the highest quality of support services and programs for our families and caregivers. The strategic plan will not only continue to offer existing services and programs, such as support groups, education workshops and conferences, counseling and referral information, but will provide capacity for growth as the population affected by Alzheimer's disease increases.

As the result of a multi-month process, the board and staff have created a five-year strategic plan consisting of five primary goals:

  • Increase awareness and knowledge of Alzheimer's disease, other memory-related disorders and the services of the Northern Virginia Chapter.
  • Promote, develop and provide education and training programs for people with memory-related disorders, family caregivers and professionals.
  • Expand access to services, information and optimal techniques to maximize care and support for people with memory-related disorders, their families and caregivers.
  • Build organizational capability throughout the Chapter to ensure the most effective and efficient foundation for carrying out the mission.
  • Increase the annual operating budget to support the programs, services and mission of the Chapter.

As vice president of the board of directors, I am committed to building an effective leadership for the organization. The board and staff depend on the continued support of our Chapter members to help us achieve this aggressive plan for improving and expanding our services to the thousands of families in need throughout our vast Chapter territory.

Linda Mazawey
99/00 Board Vice President
