Lin Noyes, RN, MSN, director of the Family Respite Center presented Mind Movements Cognitive Stimulation Program at The First Assembly of God Church in Alexandria, on January 30, 1999. Noyes discussed promising research in the area of cognitive stimulation for people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Individuals who participated in a cognitive stimulation program had a slower rate of decline than those who did not participate. While the results may not be dramatic, they can increase the quality of life and help the diagnosed individual maintain certain skills and abilities for a longer period of time. Several clinical drug research studies in Northern Virginia area are in need of persons with Alzheimer's disease, primarily in the earlier stages. For more information please call the Northern Virginia Chapter Helpline at (703) 359-4440 or (866) 259-0042.
