Washington, DC to Host World Alzheimer Congress 2000

The Alzheimer's Association announced at a press conference held at the Newseum in Arlington, Virginia that it would sponsor the World Alzheimer Congress 2000 in Washington, DC in July 2000.

The World Alzheimer Congress 2000 is the largest research, education and networking event dedicated solely to professionals working with Alzheimer's disease. The purpose of the event is to combine the leaders in research, caregiving and advocacy for people with Alzheimer's disease to share knowledge and identify strategies to eliminate Alzheimer's disease in the 21st century.

The formal announcement was in collaboration with a photographic exhibit at the Newseum titled, "Partial View: An Alzheimer's Journal" and National Alzheimer's Disease Month. The powerful and heart-wrenching photographs, taken by award -winning Washington Post photographer, Nancy Andrews, document the life of Cary Smith Henderson, an Alzheimer's patient from Harrisonburg, VA.

An estimated 5,000 worldwide leaders will attend World Alzheimer Congress 2000, which will include two separate conferences. The International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders will be held July 9-14 and the combined Alzheimer's Disease International Conference and the National Alzheimer's Disease Education Conference will be held from July 15-18.

This is the first time these two separate Alzheimer-related meetings, each the premiere event of its type in the field, will be held together. The conference is an important fusion between the scientific research and caregiving in relation to Alzheimer's disease.
