Letter from the Board

We need your help!

As a board member of the Alzheimer's Association, Northern Virginia Chapter, Chairperson of the Celebrity Fashion Show committee and Alzheimer's Commission for the Commonwealth, I am committed to anything I can do to help in the fight for "A World Without Alzheimer's."

My own family has been greatly affected by this disease (my maternal grandmother, my mother and two aunts). If you know someone or have a family member with Alzheimer's, you know how devastating it is for the entire family.

The money raised from fundraising events, corporate sponsorship, individual and corporate memberships and other contributions support our community efforts to educate the public about the disease, encourage early detection and proper treatment, and support national and local research in the effort to find a cure.

An estimated 4 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease. Without a medical breakthrough before the baby boomers reach the age of highest risk, 14 million could be afflicted by the year 2050.

With these statistics in mind, we need the help of community members and companies to show their support in the fight against Alzheimer's disease TODAY! Please use the envelope provided in this newsletter to make your contribution toward wiping out this terrible disease.

Get ready to fill your calendars with all of the events, conferences and workshops for the Spring/Summer 1999.

Please join me in my quest of truly creating "A World Without Alzheimer's."
