Public Policy Internship

The Chapter�s Government Relations program is seeking student interns for 1999. Responsibilities would depend on the interests and abilities of the intern so any undergraduate or graduate student is welcome to apply. While there is no restriction, academic experience in any of the following subjects would be helpful: political science, law, medicine, social work, gerontology, nursing, journalism, library sciences, or economics.

The Government Relations program works to protect the financial, legal and long-term health care security of people with Alzheimer�s disease and their families. While the program concentrates on state policy and is very active in the Virginia General Assembly, there is some involvement in both federal and local policy work. Most of the intern�s energy would be spent assisting the Chapter�s Director of Public Policy plan, research and implement the legislative agenda of the statewide coalition of Alzheimer�s Association chapters. Work could range from doing research on the Internet, drafting letters and position statements, and attending coalition meetings, to doing liaison work with the other chapters, monitoring governmental hearings and helping to plan event logistics.
