We Just Got the Diagnosis: What Do We Do Now?

Tuesday, November 11 (Veterans Day)
8:30 am-3:30 pm
at
Goodwin House West
3440 S. Jefferson St.
Falls Church, Virginia

A Special Conference for persons who have recently
received a diagnosis of Alzheimers disease
or other related memory disorder,
and for family and friends who care

The 11th Annual Conference sponsored by The Northern Virginia Respite Care Consortium*

Quotes from persons living with Alzheimers:

Theres an initial shock that cripples you, but eventually you pick yourself up and keep on going.

Finding out I have Alzheimers changed my life, but it hasnt ended it. . .

Once you know what youre dealing with, things dont seem as mysterious and you can focus on living one day at a time

I am here to bear witness that there is a lot more good living that goes on in the midst of Alzheimers disease than doctors and occasional visitors know how to see

I kept it to myself, thinking it was depression and inability to cope. I eventually realized I had a serious medical problem--as the saying goes--I didnt have all my oars in the water.

Diagnosed individuals and family members who attend this conference will explore strategies for adapting to change, learn how to maximize the relationship with their physicians, understand shifts in family roles and responsibilities, learn memory compensation techniques, and gain insights about coping and caring for persons living with dementia. A special segment of the conference will feature a panel of individuals living with dementia who will share their personal experiences. Featured speakers: Joanne Crantz, MD; Elizabeth Graham Welton, LCSW; Anne McKnight, LCSW; Ken Barnett, LCSW, and Dick McHugh, PhD.

Seating is limited, so register early! $20 registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and materials. Registration closes November 3. For registration info, call the Alzheimers Association, Northern Virginia Chapter at 703/359-4440 or 1-800-207-8679.
