Letter to the Community from the Executive Director From the executive director: The Alzheimer's Association, Northern Virginia Chapter experienced many positive changes during the 1997/98 fiscal year. Thanks to the support of our volunteers, individual contributors and corporate and foundation supporters, we made great strides toward fulfilling our mission. Over the last fiscal year we not only enhanced and expanded the use of our existing programs, but we increased the quality of care for persons with Alzheimer's disease and the quality of life for their caregivers as well. During the 1997/98 fiscal year, the Chapter focused its efforts on fulfilling the roleDisorders Causing Dementia of being the place to turn when dealing with all types of dementia and memory loss. Our Helpline services, advocacy campaigns, support programs and education, training and referral services are the foundation of our Chapter. We have improved each of these services and are now prepared to face the next challenge. For fiscal year 1998/99, the Northern Virginia Chapter faces a major hurdle: creating a greater awareness, acceptance and knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and the services of the Chapter. This goal is not only a priority for fiscal year 1998/99, but will continue to be a priority into the next millennium. We feel this goal is the key to unlock the provision of quality care within our local communities. We look forward to counting on you to stand by our mission as we continue our quest to serve persons with Alzheimer's disease and their families.
