Volunteers make the Tour de Canal happen.  Volunteering is a rewarding way to contribute to a worthwhile goal.  And it's a fun opportunity to make new friends and work in an enjoyable outdoor setting.

We need volunteers to cover a number of activities.

Training Program
Training rides are held on weekends throughout the spring and summer.  The training program is on-going.  See the training schedule for dates.

Rest Stops
This is a nice assignment along the Canal.  Volunteers operate rest stops for riders at designated locations on the Canal.  They pick up food, beverages and signs, travel to the designated location, set up and operate the rest stop.  Volunteers must meet a time schedule and be able to carry supplies short distances from car to site.  Each rest stop operates for about three hours, until all riders have passed.

Two volunteers per location are ideal.  Perfect work for couples.

You can choose what days and times you would like to participate.  You can help both days, or a morning or afternoon of either day, as your schedule allows.

We ride rain or shine, hot or cold.  So be prepared for whatever the elements present.

Registration
Help with registration for the Short Ride on Sunday, September 9, 2001.  This is located at Great Falls Park near Carderock, Maryland.  Volunteers will set up, register riders, and break down.  Volunteers will need to pick up registration materials in advance.

End of Ride Celebration
Volunteers are needed for the celebration Sunday evening, September 9.  Beginning at 4:00 pm, volunteers will prepare the site on the Georgetown waterfront to receive riders.  This includes setting up tents and tables, picking up food and beverages, helping riders as they arrive, and cleaning up.

Drivers
We have opportunities for volunteers who are willing to drive vans or trucks with bikes and bikers on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
